Jersey Rally Newsletter – July 2022

Welcome to the July  Newsletter for the 2022 Roberts Garages Jersey Rally – the 39th year but the 38th running of this great close road rally. Thanks again to Roberts Garages for their support as our Title Sponsor. We are  delighted that they will, once again, be offering their tyre fitting services at Rally HQ and central Service at the RJA &HS – please give generously as all donations for this service will go to Roberts Garages’ preferred charity.   Roberts Garages have been our Title Sponsor since 2017 and we remain very grateful to them for this partnership.

We are also pleased to announce that the first individual Stage Sponsors have now been confirmed. In these challenging times when everyone is closely watching budgets and costs (both personally and at business) we are very grateful to them all. Watch the website and our facebook page for individual announcements and how the rally competitors can support the Stage Sponsors.

Entries have remained stable since they opened. It was amazing to see the accepted entry list fill up so very quickly.  Unfortunately, a few entries have withdrawn which means that there is hope that the reserve entries will be able to compete… Watch this space! Great to see so many returning teams from Guernsey, England, and Wales and we hope that you all have a great time at this spectacular event.

The Roberts Garages Jersey Rally is endeavouring to reduce paper useage, build on recycling and reducing waste, saving costs and making a contribution to safeguarding the environment. For this reason, the organisers have moved away from significant printing – by way of comparison the 26 page Regulations ran to 100 to 150 copies and the “finals” ran to 30 pages and 100+ copies. The world of “pandemics” also brought forward our plans to remove certain other printing requirements and the saving will represent well over 10,000 sheets of paper.

Digimaps represents another technological leap. One of the significant current workstreams is the development of the digital rally maps – using the Digimap system introduced by Ron Allen several years ago. This is a multi-layer electronic product – so competitors will have stage maps relevant to the rally competition itself but it’s interesting to know that other “layers” of maps will, for instance, give full details of each marshal post, signage, emergency service routes, officials’ routes. A little birdie has told me that one of our clever IT gurus is working on an app for spectators which will enable you to plot a safe route to watch the stages… further news to follow

Jersey resident competitors – just a reminder to ensure that your marshals are all accredited – it doesn’t take long to complete the on-line training provided by Motorsport UK but it’s essential. The marshal registration form has been  emailed to you all.  (please contact the very efficient Angie Renouf if you have not received this) Please complete and return as soon as possible as this will be hugely beneficial to the Marshals Team – thank you!

Finally, if you are travelling to Jersey  don’t forget to contact the Merton Hotel for accommodation – quote the “Jersey Rally” for the special rate.  www.seymourhotels.com/merton-hotel. The Rally Dinner & Party menu will be published shortly – fabulous food, great entertainment and the Trophy Presentation.  Thanks to the Merton Hotel who have given us a very competitive Dinner Price.

And thanks to everyone working incredibly hard and with enthusiasm to make the 2022 Roberts Garages Jersey Rally another great success.  There’s been significant progress behind the scenes this month in a large number of areas and recognition due to the organising team who are working through some of the biggest workflows you can imagine!
