Welcome to the
Roberts Garages Jersey Rally 2023

My name is Richard Falle and I am the Chairman of the Jersey Rally Organising Committee.  On behalf of the Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to the Roberts Garages Jersey Rally 2023.

This year’s rally is a special one; it is the 40th Anniversary of the inaugural rally held in 1983, one I vaguely remember as I think it went past our house in Trinity!

Apart from the event cancelled due to Covid-19, the Jersey Rally has been an ever-present fixture on the Island’s sporting calendar.  It represents, arguably, the largest annual sporting event involving over 400 officials, marshals, radio operators, timekeepers and other support staff, around 300 crew and service teams and, of course, the Jersey Rally Committee.  Add to that the hundreds of spectators who come out rain or shine and it is truly a community event.

As some of you will know, this is my first involvement in the organisation of the Jersey Rally.  I am hugely grateful for the support, hard work and commitment from everyone on the Committee, and beyond, who are helping make this year’s event the success I know it will be.

As I write this welcome to you all, I am conscious that many Club members are engaged in our annual ritual of door knocking along proposed stages.  This is an essential part of organising the Rally and one we are required to do under the rules issued by Motorsport UK.  It is both hard work and rewarding for our Club as it highlights the lengths we go to to ensure that those affected by our event are communicated with appropriately well in advance of the event.  I shall be going out this week to do my bit.  Thank you to all those who have been working hard to get this done this year, we very much appreciate it.

As many of you will have seen, the event opened for entries on Saturday 3rd June.  By early Monday morning we had received over 80 entries.  This is an amazing response and shows how well regarded our event is both locally and nationally.

The event will take place on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October, with eight stage locations around the Island.  Service is, once again, at the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society’s show ground in Trinity, and we are very grateful for their continued support of our Rally.

In addition, a big thank you must also go to the Parishes, residents, businesses and Government of Jersey for all the help they provide to make the rally the event that it is.

Finally, I could not finish without a huge thank you to our sponsors.  This year’s 40th Anniversary is a major milestone in local sport.  We are delighted that Roberts Garages have shown a continued commitment to the Jersey Rally as Lead Sponsor.  Without their support, and that of our individual stage sponsors, the Roberts Garages Jersey Rally would be a much harder and more costly event to run.  

The Roberts Garages Jersey Rally is a huge event, not only for the local community, but also for the JMC&LCC.  Having recently celebrated our centenary year, having a 40th Anniversary event for the Jersey Rally is a special occasion.    I look forward to this year’s Rally being as successful and entertaining as the previous 39 years and hope to see you enjoying yourselves whatever role you have.
